The Reality of Automatic Door Systems

Many myths surround automatic door systems, not unlike the kind of stories you might hear in a small town. People are quick to say they can read your mind and believe they consume excessive electricity while constantly breaking down. Put those kinds of tales aside and look at the technology objectively learn more, however, you'll discover there is very little evidence to support them. We have put some of these assertions to the test.

Take the notion that an automatic unit will inflate the power tab in a way a manual door would not. It is a simple assumption to make: a motor running all day must be costly. In fact, the motor only engages in short bursts to see the opening and closing cycle through. Once you consider the heating or cooling lost because an employee has left a conventional door propped open, automatic doors often become the more energy-efficient option.

“They Break All the Time”

You are bound to come across this grievance. There is some truth in it, even if it is overstated. Automatic doors contain motors, sensors, and control boards; with that many components there is a greater likelihood of something going wrong. However, a properly maintained system is highly reliable. More often than not failures result from inadequate maintenance rather than poor design. It's like blaming a car for a flat tire when routine maintenance has been ignored.

A Matter of Time

Arguments exist on both sides. If it is just one person coming into the building, two seconds is hardly worth noting. However, in busy hospitals or retail stores with heavy foot traffic, those seconds quickly add up. A customer with his arms full or a nurse with a gurney would rather not be fiddling with a handle. The goal is to make daily operations smoother and more efficient.

No Guarantees

Don't assume that automatic means flawless. Debris and the elements take their toll, as time does. Without regular upkeep, even a well-installed automatic door can begin to develop problems over time. Like any mechanical system, automatic doors require routine maintenance to stay reliable. Ignoring maintenance can allow small issues to become costly repairs.
